We haven't been away together since our honeymoon 5 years ago and it will be the first time we've been away that long from our daughter. Exciting and scary.
But enough of that, back to the freebies.
I am working on teaching my Grade 3's all about the different genres of reading in order to implement a 40 book reading challenge for them. They are getting pretty excited about it and I am too. I plan to incorporate some data management aspects and hopefully a media project or 2!
To start it all off, of course, I have been introducing them to the genres and to do that I created these genre cards. We did a huge sort in the library with the librarian and it was very interesting. I learned that my students didn't know that they could or should read the synopsis on the back of a book. They didn't realize that you could preview the book inside by reading a little bit. This will all become future mini-lessons of course.
